AssetVow

Comparison

AssetVow vs AssetExplorer

Both keep a register of your laptops and other IT assets, but they start from different questions. AssetExplorer, from ManageEngine, asks what is on your network and what software runs on it. AssetVow asks which person holds each item, whether they signed for it, and whether it came back when they left.

AssetVow is the better fit if you

  • keep losing laptops and phones when people resign
  • want each employee to sign for what they receive, on their phone
  • need a No-Dues certificate before Full & Final
  • want GST purchase bills that go straight to Tally or Zoho Books

AssetExplorer is the better fit if you

  • need every computer on the network found by an agent or a scan
  • track installed software and licence compliance
  • want a CMDB that maps services to the assets behind them
  • have to run the tool on your own servers

Discovery tells you a laptop exists. It does not tell you who signed for it.

A network scan can report that a Dell Latitude with serial 5CD2… checked in from the Gurugram office yesterday. What it cannot report is whether the person using it ever accepted it, or who should hand it back when they resign. AssetVow starts there. Every hand-over goes to the employee as a link, they check the items and type their name, and you keep a PDF with the time, IP address, device and the policy version they accepted. If you use Intune, AssetVow also matches your managed devices to the register by serial number and lists the ones that are with a different person or still with a leaver.

What happens when someone resigns

HR marks Priya as leaving on 31 March in Zoho People, or her leave date is set in Microsoft Entra ID. AssetVow opens an exit case with one task per item she holds: the laptop, the charger, the access card. Reminders go out on day 0, 3 and 7. Each item comes back, is marked lost (which sends a write-off to the owner), or is waived by the owner with a reason. Damage and loss are flagged for Full & Final; nothing is deducted automatically. When every task is closed, HR gets a No-Dues certificate as a PDF.

GST is part of the purchase, not an afterthought

Enter a vendor with their GSTIN and AssetVow works out CGST and SGST for a vendor in your state, or IGST for one outside it. Bills follow your approval limits, and an approved purchase bill creates the assets at the office that received them. Approved bills export to Tally as XML with your ledger names, or push to Zoho Books with the invoice attached. Your accounts stay the books of record; AssetVow never changes them.

Where AssetExplorer is stronger

AssetExplorer is a broad IT asset management suite from ManageEngine, part of Zoho Corporation. If your IT team runs servers, network gear and hundreds of installed applications, it covers ground AssetVow does not try to cover.

  • Agent and agentless discovery of every computer on the network
  • Software inventory, licence compliance and usage tracking
  • A CMDB with service dependency maps
  • An on-premises edition and a free edition that never expires
  • RFID scanner support
  • Contracts with parent and child agreements

Switching

Moving from AssetExplorer takes an afternoon

  1. 1

    Export your asset list

Take your assets out of AssetExplorer as a spreadsheet. Keep the tag, serial number, model and office columns.

  2. 2

    Import it into AssetVow

Upload the Excel or CSV file. AssetVow suggests which column is which and checks every row before anything is saved. Add “Assigned to” and “Assigned on” columns to bring in who holds what today.

  3. 3

    Connect your people

Connect Zoho People or Microsoft Entra ID, or upload your people list, so joiners and leavers update the register on their own.

FAQ

AssetVow vs AssetExplorer: common questions

Is AssetVow a full replacement for AssetExplorer?+

Not for every company. AssetVow does not scan your network, track installed software or keep a CMDB. It replaces AssetExplorer when what you really need is a register of who holds what, signed hand-overs, exits with No-Dues and GST purchase bills.

Can AssetVow find devices automatically?+

If your laptops are enrolled in Microsoft Intune, yes: AssetVow matches Intune devices to your register by serial number and shows the ones missing from the register, used by a different person, not seen for 30 days or still with a leaver. It has no network scanner or agent of its own.

Does AssetVow run on our own servers?+

No. AssetVow is a cloud service. If you have to host the tool yourself, AssetExplorer’s on-premises edition is the better choice.

Do AssetVow and AssetExplorer work together?+

Not today. There is no connection between the two. You can run both, but you would keep the asset list in two places.

Does AssetVow work with Tally?+

Yes. Approved purchase bills export as Tally XML with your ledger names. If you use Zoho Books instead, AssetVow can push approved bills to it, with the invoice attached.
